Hello mickeybear-ga,
I know that you said that the film is from the 1960s, but could you
possibly be referring to the 1947 film ?Tarzan and the Huntress?? A
synopsis can be found at the following webpage:

Hi Mickeybear ~
Is it possible that you might be referring to the 1962 film "Hatari!"
starring John Wayne and Elsa Martinelli who is 'adopted' by an
orphaned baby elephant and is referred to jokingly as "Mama Tembo"
(Mama Elephant)?
The part with the elephant (later two more) following Mama Tembo was
accompanied by Henry Mancini's "Baby Elephant Walk", which added a
charm throughout the film.
Just a possibility - it was the first film that came to my mind when I
read your question.

This is based on family recollections for the naming of a child in the
1960s. I am not entirely convinced that this is the answer - there
would definitely appear to have been something that was current at the
time of the naming - late 1960s... She's been looking for a while,
but not found the answer - I thought Google Answers amazing
researchers might be able to help!

this would be pretty convincing were it not for the fact that it is
not a film... I'll follow this up, and see whether this jogs any
memories.
Thanks
