Hi amyst777,

It certainly looks like the Canon I900D is a good choice of printers!
Just looking at the Canon I900D specs on this Biz Rate site would make
me want to say ?Yes?- Printing in B&W should yield crisply printed
text! This model prints black and white in the same 4800 x 1200 DPI
resolution, as it does for color! It was difficult to find a site that
had reviewed black and white printing for this printer?it appears it
is made specifically as a photo printer, and all the user reviews
mentioned using this printer almost exclusively for photos. The
printer does have an envelope print feature however.

This is the ONLY review I could find that mentions text printing! This
owner was happy with the black and white text printing if using Canon
paper only!

One drawback of this printer, according to this Photo Net site, is
the printing of black and white photos. Seems they may print with a
magenta cast. This can be corrected using photo imaging software.

This owner is happy with black and white prints however.

The following reviews neglect to say anything, either favorable or
unfavorable about text printing:

Well amyst777, I have come to the conclusion that this printer would
do a good job with text, considering the print resolution of 4800x1200
DPI, if using Canon paper. I have also come to the conclusion that if
your old printer is still useable, maybe you would want to dedicate it
to text, and save this printer for photos. Judging by the reviews,
this seems to be an excellent choice of printers for photos, but
perhaps the I860 would be another consideration, if you want ONE
printer to do photos and text well.

Consider this ?other? Canon, the I860. Not only is it less expensive,
according to Amazon.com, it prints ?high-definition photos and
laser-sharp black text at unbelievable speeds? with the same
resolution DPI and the Canon I900D. Scroll down the page to read the
review.Doesn't seem to need Canon only paper, and reviews mention
sharp text.
