A few weeks ago I saw a movie (a recent one I suppose) where a
girl/woman says "conundrum". The scene is quite memorable and some
people might even have had to rewind because they did not understand
the word. At least I did not understand the word and only learned of
it later.
Now that I know the word I have forgotten the title of the movie and
cannot relate the scene with the word to any other event.
I'm sure that this is an easy one for those who have seen it. What is
the title of the movie?
Thank you and a Merry Christmas to you all! :) |

A few more details:
She said the word in a fashion that would suggest it was the word of
the day or part of a daily game that was played with a new word every
day.
Also, she was standing in some kind of hallway, maybe in a hospital or school.

You're looking for a *movie* where a *woman* says it. In case your
main goal is to have some media play of the word--I know of a *TV
show* where a *man* says it (and it's in a hospital, too)! It's from
SCRUBS. I'm guessing that this won't suit your needs, but just in
case, I'm throwing it out there for you!
Sincerely,

I am quite sure it was a woman and I cannot imagine whatever I saw not
being a movie. Apart from that, I cannot recall having seen a single
episode of SCRUBS.
I guess once I read the title of the movie I will know immediately.
The word was not used as part of a sentence. She just said
"Conundrum!" and it was clear that it was THE word in that context and
people would know what to do with it.
Oh, and it wasn't X files. Of that I'm sure.
The movie was on DVD and probably released in the last few months,
maybe years but rented or bought recently.
Thank you for investigating the matter! I apologize for not being more
specific but everything is a bit foggy in my memory. :)

It's been suggested that perhaps the movie you're looking for is
"Girl, Interrupted", which was set in a mental hospital.
Is this it:

I don't think I ever saw "Girl, Interrupted". And the movie must have
been lighter material not a drama.
I stopped at the list of recent releases when I read "Legally Blonde
2" although I do not think that's it. It must be related in a way,
however. Maybe I watched it the same day. I fell asleep during Legally
Blonde so I only remember the actress and her dog but not much from
the plot. I think I also watched "The Ring" the same day.
It seems that just reading a title doesn't help, the connection must
be made to the "conundrum" scene. :(

You mention having seen "The Ring." In this film, Aidan (Rachel's
little boy) uses the word "conundrum." Is it possible that this is the
instance of someone saying "conundrum" that you remember? Could it be
a child rather than a woman who said the word?
"Rachel's knowing young son (David Dorfman) describes the situation as
a 'conundrum'-a deep mystery involving a riddle. The riddle is who or
what made the tape, and why."

"The thing is, the question of what to do with Samara is a conundrum,
as Aidan would put it."

"Today, I was fascinated by a word that I have heard before, but did
not know it's meaning. The word was: conundrum, which means:A riddle
in which a fanciful question is answered by a pun.
A paradoxical, insoluble, or difficult problem; a dilemma: ?the
conundrum, thus far unanswered, of achieving full employment without
inflation? (Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr.).

puzzling question, of which the answer is or involves a pun.
Or pun ambiguous, or conundrum quaint. --J. Philips.
2. A question to which only a conjectural answer can be made.
WOW!!! what an interesting word! Somewhat hard to understand, even
though I was given a definition. I saw this particular word in the
movie 'The Ring'."

I am very glad to have been able to help you pin this down! I know how
frustrating it can be to have a thing like this running through your
head. Thanks to Google Answers, you can run it through someone else's
head, and we all know that two heads are better than one. ;-)
Best wishes for a Happy New Year!
