SUMMARY

Leadership is a process of getting things done by people. It is
important to understand that not every person possesses the quality to
lead people. Infect, leading people is a difficult process as it
requires the leader to motivate each person to carry out their orders.
Since, leaders rely on others to perform the required task; it is a
sort of team work that is always adventurous because the leaders
themselves don?t know if the task will be accomplished.

To lead the people is to motivate them and to do that, it is vital
that a leader create an environment that will help the people to carry
out orders without involving complications. A leader creates such a
condition that allows the team to improve and get results. The main
task of the leader in that environment is to suggest viable solution
to problems and evaluate the performance of his team so that the
individual members of the team can easily discuss the situation and
try to improve from within.

The greatest asset of a leader is that they involve each member of the
group in the team building process and make them believe that nothing
can be achieved without acting as a team. To achieve this, according
to John Boldani, the author of the famous book ?Walk to motivation?, a
leader turns bad attitudes to good ones by listening, learning and
than introducing positive changes based on the experiences of his
team. A leader not only hears the suggestions from the team members
but also learn from their cumulative experiences. For example, it is
often seen that a coach of a certain team might not be a very famous
player in his own times but they are able to lead their team
successfully in major tournaments. The reason behind the success of
such coach is their ability to learn from the knowledge of the players
and make new strategies based on those experiences. Thus a decision of
a good coach is based upon the collective information that they gather
from their own knowledge and the knowledge of their teams. Such an
attitude of a coach helps other players feel important and provide
them an opportunity to participate in the decision making process.

Almost all the great leaders in the history have led by example. Most
of the leaders recognize the extent to which their followers emulate
them and thus always try to be role models to inspire future leaders.
A successful team building process involves a leader where he asks
people to challenge the ideas proposed by the leader himself. By
encouraging the people to challenge the strategies proposed by the
leaders, they (the leaders) allow themselves an opportunity to change
any proposition that might not be very effective. Most famous leaders
have also been known to encourage their sub-ordinates to disagree with
the leader?s ideas so that the final decision is based on the
collective efforts of the team members. When the final decision is
based on a broad range of ideas by different individuals, it
encourages the other members to put forward their theories and
suggestions.

Sharing the responsibility of the leadership with other team members
is another important aspect of the leadership qualities. By delegating
the responsibilities to the members of the team, a leader shows trust
in others and thus promotes harmony among the group. Among other
improvements, a leader also makes it easier for the team members to
communicate among each other. For this purpose, a leader may allocate
a certain place for the gathering of the members so that everyone can
share the ideas proposed by other members.

A leader who is trying to develop the leadership skills in his
employees integrates the leadership qualities in the overall learning
process. Thus, an environment is which the group members can apply
their ideas towards the implementation allows the individuals to
explore their success potential and learn from their mistakes. In the
creation of such an atmosphere, a good leader has the ability to
oversee the mistakes of the members because he realizes that the whole
learning process is a result of success and failures. To hone the
leadership qualities of the team, a leader always provides a leeway
for any failures. The designing of learning activities that calls for
action learning approach is a hallmark of a successful leader. By
exposing the team members to the real world situations, a leader makes
it easier for his people to understand the complexities involved on
the path towards success.
