Hello,

I need to know the proportion of marriage-based green cards that are
approved (granted) versus those that are denied. I've browsed the INS
website and there seems to be a huge amount of statistics on the
number of green cards granted, but I haven't seen statistics about
green cards granted vs. filed. I just need to know this ratio. (I
was able to find the number of applications approved vs. denied for
other immigration categories, such as EB-5 Investor immigrant.)

Hello enivaryug and thank you for your question.

The answer is, for fiscal year 2003, 53% were denied and 47% were granted.

"Of the 17,900 marriage-based petitions processed in fiscal year 2003,
9,500 were denied, or a record 53%, said Mary Ann Gantner, interim
director of the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services'
district in New York. The year before, 30% were denied."
