I am looking for a 1960s toy that had Fred flintstone sitting on a
quarry dinosaur. It was battery operated and the dinosaur's neck
moveed up and down. Original dinosaur was likely purple. Fred sat in a
"cage" which was open-sided with a roof. Toy was circa 12-18 inches in
length.

ADDENDUM: Here are a few others

Another one at Ebay, the quarry dinosaur:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3165849306&category=719
This one is at $66.00 currently.

Another offering is at http://www.marys-antiques.com/tin_windup_toys/ts_022b.htm

Yet another is located at http://www.timewarptoys.com/toys.htm
"Fred Flintstone & Dino by Marx. Large battery operated bump & go
action. Fred looks like he is really moving Dino. When he hits a wall,
he "pulls back" on Dino and goes in another direction. Nice & Clean.
Missing the top awning. Otherwise - works great and looks great!"
http://www.timewarptoys.com/toys.htm

About midway down the page at
http://www.funkandjunk.com/ellespage/questions11.html is more
information about Marx and this toy.

I had these in other browsers and neglected to add them to my original
answer. My apologies for the omission.

Best regards,
journalist-ga

Here's a comprehensive article about Flintstones collectibles,
including the toy you seek, at
http://www.fullyarticulated.com/Flintstones.html
"Speculative considerations aside, Hake reveals that his favorite
Flintstones item is a big battery-powered plush Dino ridden by a tin
Fred made by Marx in 1962. "I guess because of the sheer size of it
and the action," he enthuses. This particular toy is prone to fading
with age and exposure to light, so a Dino with a still-vivid plush
hide is hard to find ? Hake sold one for $425 at his auction."
