I am looking for a good text which would cover data decomposition
diagrams and data flow  diagrams. It should be suitable for a savvy
reader and provide a good idea as what these diagrams are about and
how to construct them.

The data flow diagrams part is no problem, but I have had trouble with
the data decomposition diagrams part.  Most of the web references to
data decomposition diagrams seem to be in job descriptions for
database analysts, but the only examples of these diagrams I found
involved dividing up data among processors for parallel processing. 
Can you say any more about why you are interested in data
decomposition diagrams or how we might tell if we found information
about the right kind?  Can you narrow it down to a database context or
a parallel processing context?  Do you know if you are interested in
structured versus object-oriented modeling?  Both can diagram data
decomposition, but they do it in different ways, and neither calls the
diagram a "data decomposition diagram."

Thanks for your interest. Indeed, I am a database analyst, which
should explain my need for this help. I am starting a new job, and
part of the description is to be able to create data decomposition and
data flow diagrams. I am vaguely familiar with data flow diagrams but
Data Decomposition diagrams have thrown me for a loop. I have no idea 
what they are looking for, yet I have seen this skill listed for
several job positions which I applied.

I hope this gives you a better idea of my needs and interests. Please
let me know if you need further clarification.

I did some more looking, but couldn't find a single book that even
mentioned data decomposition diagrams.  Sorry.  Maybe somebody else
will have more success.
