Question ID: 290955
Are there any products out there that will make it easier for me to
create hyperlinked tress of MS Word documents ?

Currently, every time I make a new document I have to copy a template
to a new filename, make a hyperlink to that file, then go into the
file and make a hyperlink back to the parent. It's a real pain when
you're creating a lot of nodes. I need a product that will automate
this process, and maybe even allow me to view or manage the tree/graph
structure.

One related question: Hyperlinks work fine with MS Word 97 but MS Word
2000 opens them in a new window which is very annoying ... how can I
turn this off ?

You could probably create this functionality with a macro.
Here's how I imagine it working:
1: Enter and select the text that is to be the hyper-link to a new
subsidiary document.
2: Invoke your macro, which:
3: Inserts a new bookmark in your existing document corresponding to
the selected text
4: Stores the name of the current document and bookmark name in a variable
5: Prompts for the name of a subsidiary file
6: Creates the file
7: Inserts a "Back" hyperlink to the document/bookmark it had stored
8: Saves the document
9: Switches back to the parent document
10: Creates a hyperlink (coinciding with the bookmark) to the new document

Yes, this is true. I was hoping someone had done all this and perhaps
more already, and had it available somewhere as a product or
otherwise. I don't know VBA/Word and don't have time to learn it.

Solomind,

You may want to expire this question, since I provided you with a
macro to do this on your other question.
