The St. Patrick's Church is the oldest parish in the Federal City of
Washington, D.C. Founded in 1794 to minister to the needs of the
stonemasons building the White House and the U.S. Capitol.

From an article published in February 1998:

Father Damien was beatified (declared blessed) by Pope John Paul II on
June 4, 1995, at a ceremony in Belgium. Beatification is a preliminary
step leading to canonization, or formal proclamation as a saint.

The following was published in the Athens Banner-Herald on Saturday,
April 12, 2003:

?Damien would be proclaimed a saint if the tribunal finds the claim
legitimate and the Vatican's Congregation for the Causes of Saints and
the pope approve. Damien, who died of leprosy at Kalaupapa in 1879,
was beatified in 1995, the final step before sainthood.?

It appears that Father Damien has been canonized yet, despite the
references that say so. These citations are confusing beatification
with canonization.

Sorry for the typo.

It should say:
It appears that Father Damien has NOT been canonized yet,

My good friend and fellow researcher pinkfreud-ga pointed out another
good article dated April 4, 2003 about the possibility of Father
Damien's canonization:
