Background: With most network cards you are able to set the speed /
duplex detection to autosense, which allows a network card to feel out
a local network by questioning other network cards or switches for
what the maximum speed should be. Network cards can also be forced to
operate in a fixed mode that you specify. This can be done from the
device manager with the options in the advanced tab, if the driver of
the network card allows it.

Question: I am looking for a way to determine what speed and duplex a
network card on a Windows machine (95, 98, Me, NT4, 2000, XP) has
negotiated at when set to autosense. I would prefer the way to be
through a built-in command line application, or a resource kit, or a
Windows GUI dialog, but a 3rd party application that reliably displays
this information would do too. I need a way to give me a direct value
for the autosensed speed so testing for the speed is not what I need.

	Thank you for your help.

Try this:

http://miranda.ctd.anl.gov:7123/

It's a Java applet that can determine what your duplex speed is. Run
it and then click on "Statistics".

Harijs: Thanks. It's a nice speed test so I will keep that in mind.
However, that doesn't show the duplex that I need. I believe the
duplex it checks is the last duplex of the last router, which displays
the duplex of the hops between you and the test site, not necessarily
the local connection though.

There is an install for it though. So, it may work if I install it on
a server on the same subnet...
