I am looking for a school that provides a curriculum based on the "Great Books."
However, it must be in California, Arizona, or New Mexico as this is
where I plan to retire.
The curriculum must be for non-Adult continuing education (meaning no
tests or papers).
For the last nine years I have attended the program at
http://grahamschool.uchicago.edu/has/program.cfm?programid=109
The above link represents the ideal environment that I would be looking for.
As I was thinking of New Mexico and knew about St. John's College I
emailed them, and their response is below:
Start of email from St. John's College
Dear Mr. Metcalf:
Thank you for your e-mail and interest in the Graduate Institute in Liberal
Education. I am unfamiliar with any program in Santa Fe or the Southwestern
region that is similar to the program you have been involved with at the
University of Chicago. The graduate programs here at St. John's are degree
programs. One is focused towards the Western tradition and the other
towards classical texts from India, China, and Japan. You may be interested
in our Summer Classics program, and I would gladly send you further
information on both of our graduate programs and the Summer Classics
program. If you are interested, please e-mail me your complete mailing
address, and I shall mail one to you immediately. If there are further
questions or if I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to
contact me.
Best Regards,

End of email from St. John's College.
I wrote back to St. John's asking them what constitutes the
"Southwestern region" but they have not written me back.
The main www for St. John's in New Mexico is:

I am aware of the "Great Books Discussion Groups" that are in various
cities nation wide, however that is *not* interesting to me. |
