through Microsoft's new "Bluetooth" device with "MicroSoft Outlook".
I want to be able to access my telephone's address and appointment
features and keep them organized on my computer. I am using a IBM
machine with Windows XP. Others say "Sony Ericsson" needs to
recognize a communication port??

fatboy9825-ga:

According to the information in the user's guide at:

http://www.sonyericsson.com/downloads/T616_UG_R1a_AE.pdf

on pages 66-69, it indicates that synchronization with your PC is
indeed possible, as long as you install the synchronization software
(SE Comm Suite 1.5.9) from:

http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?template=SP1_19&B=IE&FileCatID=4&start=0&PID=10076&LM=SD_V&MN=Synchronization&noredir=1

and follow the procedure in the user's guide (page 67) to 'recognize'
your PC as an authorized device.

Have you already tried this? Everything on the Sony-Ericsson support
site indicates that what you are trying to do is supported by the
T616.

Please let me know if this works for you before I post it as the
Answer; if it does not work, also let me know so that I can seek
additional information for you.

No, it doesn't work. I've tried it before. It gives you a warning
that "synchronizatio has failed". When I contact "Sony Ericsson,"
they inform me that this particular Bluetooth must suport a serial
profile in order for their software to work. They say that Xtnd PC
for Ericsson, My picutres, Image Editor must enable the correct Serial
Com port in the mobile phone monitor in the Window's "Control Panel.
They further state that if you cannot verify which comport is being
used for communication you need to contact the manufacturer.
Mircrosoft says that they don't know how to do it either. I have try
turning off all Antivirus software and other synchronization software.
Nothing allows my cell phone to synchronize with my computer through
MicroSoft bluetooth. Other tell me that this particular Bluetooth
automatically closes the communication ports due to Microsoft having
security problems. They say Belkin is the only way to go. I don't
want to have two Bluetooths sitting on top of my computer. Thanks, I
hope you have better success than me. John

Well, Microsoft's level of knowledge and support for their Bluetooth
transceiver is - let's just say it's lacking.

The closest information I could find that indicates that they
recognize a potential problem is:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811235

As well, it appears that the only solution to your problem will be for
Microsoft to release updates to the drivers for their Bluetooth
transceiver. Until then, your only option is to fiddle around with the
settings in Control Panel>Wireless Link to see if you can convince it
to tell you the COM port being emulated by the driver.

I'll post a follow-up if I come across any additional information, but
it looks like this is a situation where you will need to wait for
Microsoft to catch up.
