Is it true that in rural areas during the hunting season American
children wear Orange jackets to prevent them being mistaken for
rabbits?
Or is this just an urban myth?

Dear kemlo-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting question.

It?s not only true my friend ? it?s THE LAW ? and not just in
primarily rural states, but just about ALL of them! Blaze orange,
florescent orange or ?hunter orange? as it is sometimes called is
required gear most all US states and Canadian provinces. A few states
even permit chartreuse. Children and adult hunters alike are required
to don a certain number of square inches of the material (usually
200?500 visible square inches depending on local state or provincial
law) while hunting. In some areas, if you are caught without it you
are subject to a big fine, while in others it can mean the suspension
or revocation of your hunting license and even the forfeiture of your
firearm.

This article will give you a great idea about what is required in most
jurisdictions:

I had wondered if non-hunting children living in areas where hunting
took place had to wear Orange walking to school or playing outside.
However the link to the legal summery has given me the answer.
Thankyou for your help
