My Blaupunkt CD300 dispaly shows 'safe 6'. I have the code for the
radio but cannot remove 'safe 6' from the display. I have tried
pressing AS then
turning the radio on (with and without the ignition switched on) but
to no avail. How can I insert the code?

Dear broughton,

Normally, Google Answers Researchers are not allowed to post "trial
answers", but in this case I can't see a better way to make sure you
won't experience any disappointment.
Have you already tried the following?

1. Turn the radio on while pressing the "AS" button
2. Keep "AS" pressed until you hear a signal sound (after approx. 15 seconds)
3. The display shows a digit, for example "9". This means: 9 tries
left for entering the code correctly
4. The digit is followed by 4 dashes ( - - - - )
5. Press the station dial button #1 as often as necessary, until the
first digit of your code appears on the display
6. Do the same for the second code digit, but with the station dial button #2
7. Do the same for the third code digit, but with the station dial button #3
8. Do the same for the fourth code digit, but with the station dial button #4
9. When all digits of your code show up on the display correctly,
press "AS" again and keep it pressed until you hear the signal sound
after approx. 15 seconds

If this works, please let me know and I will post it as a regular answer.

Regards,
Scriptor

Thanks for the response, but I've tried the procedure you describe and
it doesn't work.
The display reads 'safe 6' and no amount of pressing the AS button
will get me to step 4!

For future reference:

The correct sequence for entering the code is as follows:

1. Turn the Ignition On
2. Turn the radio on while pressing the 'AS' button
3. Keep 'AS' pressed until you hear a bleep(approx. 5 seconds)
4. The display shows a digit, for example "10". This means: 10 attempts
left for correctly entering the code
5. The digit is followed by 4 dashes ( 10 - - - - )
6. Press preset '1' until the first digit of your code is shown on the display
7. Press preset '2' until the second digit of your code is shown on the display
8. Press preset '3' until the third digit of your code is shown on the display
9. Press preset '4' until the fourth digit of your code is shown on the display
10. When all digits are displayed correctly press and hold the "AS"
button again until you hear the bleep (approx. 5 seconds)

As long as the radio is displaying 'SAFE' and a number at the same
time (eg. 6 SAFE )then all you have to do is leave the radio and
ignition switched on and the radio will unlock itself.
The lower the number displayed the longer the time you have to wait
(this starts at nothing for '10', a few seconds at '9', approx. 5
minutes at '8', approx. 10 minutes at '7' etc.) this information came
from Code-Busters they have a site all about car radio decoding at
www.unimark.freeserve.co.uk

Hope that helps anyone else who gets stuck.
