What is the state in which the mother and child now reside?

That would necessarily be a part of directing you to the answer.

Greetings, Tim!

PerfectNav is Adware (scumware) that is installed with the Kazaa Media
Desktop. You can use Spybot Search & Destroy anti-spyware/adware
software to remove PerfectNav. Spybot S&D ( ) can be downloaded for free here:

** Be aware that removing PerfectNav may render Kazaa unusable. **

Once you have downloaded the program, you should be able to
double-click on the desktop icon to run it. **Before you do anything
else**, you need to click on the "Search for Updates" button to pull
in the latest updated detection files (PerfectNav was just added on
November 24, 2003).

You should run Spybot S&D once a month (or more frequently, depending
on how often you download program files). I also run AdAware by
Lavasoft periodically as the two programs have a great deal of
overlap, but each individually offers additional protections.

You can download AdAware by clicking on one of the links under "Full
Install" on this page:

You will also need to "Check for Updates" periodically with AdAware.

Before choosing to download any programs like Kazaa, I recommend that
you do a Google search on the program name and the term "spyware", for

Kazaa spyware

You can then read the search result pages to decide whether or not the
program is really something that you want to download. (If there are
no results which indicate that the program contains spyware, try the
program name and "adware". If there are still no results, then the
program is probably fine.)

Before Rating this Answer, if you have any questions about this
information, please post a Request for Clarification.

Best wishes,

1. Run a program called Ad-Aware.
2. Run a program called SpyBot Search & Destroy.
3. Run a program called Spy Sweeper.
4. Reboot
5. Run a program called CWShredder.
6. Your Browser and Google now work.
