A very politically ambitious DA in my county is *very* aggressive
about pursuing internet "child predators" mostly by having cops pose
as young kids and trying to chat up people (mostly men) and see if
they say anything suggestive or overtly sexual.
Although I would never condone sex between someone below the age of
consent and an older adult, the cynic in me wonders if the DA is
simply using this as an "easy" way to bolster her record to further
her political ambitions, ie, "Look, I put away more would-be child
molestors in 2003 than ever before", etc.
Who in government is watching someone like her to make sure she
isn't crossing the line into entrapment? How as a concerned citizen
can I monitor what she does to make sure she isn't crossing the line?
