Hi, I'm looking for a recent list of the top banks ranked by assets
for the U.S. and the world. I've already found this:
http://www.thebanker.com/art1july01.htm which is close, but doesn't
rank U.S. banks separately. I'm looking for top 25 at a minimum, but
top 100 or more would be nice. Also, I'm hoping to see the relative
rankings of these U.S. banks: Wells Fargo, Bank of America, and
Washington Mutual. Thanks for any help!

Hello.

The most authoritative, up-to-date rankings appear to be available
from American Banker Online, a leading banking industry publication.

American Banker Online is a subscription-based site and content is
only available to subscribers. Luckily, though, they offer a two week
free trial subscription:
http://www.americanbanker.com/registration.html

Once you've completed the subscription process (it only took me a few
minutes), you can view American Banker's ranking reports published
just within the last few days:
http://www.americanbanker.com/rankingthebanks.html

Specifically, they have a list of the top 150 U.S. banks, based on
12/31/01 assets (published 6/11/02):
http://www.americanbanker.com/rankings.html?rankingchart=/BTHC/Assets/061102Top150BankAssets.htm

They also have a list of the top 100 banks in the world, based on
12/31/01 assets (published 6/18/02):
http://www.americanbanker.com/rankings.html?rankingchart=/BTHC/Assets/061802TopWorldBanks.htm

Other rankings are available online, but are somewhat outdated.

A Google-cached file from Bankinfo.com provides 1999 data:
http://216.239.37.100/search?q=cache:XyMVJRNCsLwC:www.bankinfo.com/stats-aag/usass.html+%22chase+manhattan%22+citibank++morgan+%22bankers+trust%22+%22wells+fargo%22&hl=en&client=googlet

Moneypage.com lists March 1997 data:

I hope this helps. Good luck in your research.
