Internet Explorer (6.0.28) freezes when beginning to open new window. Going
from one max window to another max window does fine. Only when opening an
additional window. It creates blank window, but nothing shows up. I
can open new window from tool bar with no problem then paste shortcut.
Opens fine.
I have 1 gig memory, XP (up to date on updates), 2ghz. 8 gig free on
Win drive. This is recent problem, no new installs. Virus protection
up to date.
I have reset the internet explorer options back to the default - but no luck. |

Silly question, I know, but have you rebooted since the problem surfaced?

Yes, the problem has been going on for about 3 wks. Rebooted several
times in that period.
seems there should be a way to re-install interenet explorer to
clear,clean and refresh it.

star1951,
Go to ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS in the Control Panel. Select the Internet
Explorer program as if you are going to uninstall. Before it actually
uninstalls, it will ask you if you want to attempt to repair the
currerent installation. Say yes. It will find and replace any
damaged or corrupted files.
Let me know if this works.

Tried to - found only 1 item listed for Internet explorer with a
letter and numbers after it. (I looked both for Microsoft Internet
Explorer and Internet Explorer.)
I clicked it for uninstall, it IMMEDIATELY uninstalled it. It seems to
be only one of the updates for Interent Explorer. I re-tested...The
problem is still there.

The next step would be to try reinstalling IE. You have two choices,
a complete uninstall and reinstall, or just over the top. I'd try
over the top first...
You could try looking through the support pages linked there first,
it's up to you.
Here's the page:

Yes, tried that weeks ago....
XP doesn't take it out, MS says that is is an INTREGAL part of XP -
just makes it inaccessible, its a programming perk according to MS.
When I try to download a new copy (again today) it says that I have a
newer version already installed and will go no farther. But I will
read through the site you pointed out... you never know!

You could try cleaning out your caches by opening up Tools===>Internet
Options, and clicking on Delete Cookies, Delete (Temporary Internet)
Files, and Clear History.
WSRNING: You will lose some of your stored settings by doing this.
But I've found that this can be surprisingly effective in restoring
full functionality to IE.
Good luck
