I am looking for a website (whose name I had and lost) from a
manufacturer. This manufacturer is producing blankets made with
remnants from old italian cashmere sweaters that creates a sort of
high end patchwork blanket. It was mentioned in a design type
magazine -- perhaps Elle Decor or InStyle. Can you find this site for
me?

Hello Idruyan,

I found several makers of blankets, from recycled sweaters. I feel
confident that one of the makers here will be the one you saw featured
in a magazine.

Uncommon Goods has a blanket made from recycled wool sweaters:

Thanks for the sites, but sadly, none of these seems to be the maker I
saw. These are largely from wool vs. cashmere.

Thank you for the clarification Idruyan! I will do further research this evening!

Hi Idruyan,

Thank you for being patient. I'm sorry I missed the mark about the
"cashmere" only part of your question. I have written to Elle and
InStyle magazines to inquire about the blankets for you. I am
continuing to search, but a search of these two magazines led to
nothing. So far, I have found nothing more, but I am still searching!
Do you have any more "clues", such as the year you may have seen the
article, the country or state the manufacturer was in, the letter the
company name may have started with? Thank you...I'm still working on
this!

crabcakes-ga

Hi idruyan,
I wanted to let you know that I have been searching most of the day,
with no luck. I have not heard from Elle Decor or InStyle, and am
looking at other magazines now.

Do you remember if the site was dedicated to blankets? Could it have
sold other items as well? You say it was a manufacturer. Could it have
been an artisan, or a weaver, or was the maker of these blankets a
large, possibly well known company?

I have found NO blankets made from old/recycled cashmere sweaters. Was
the site located in the US?

Thank you!

Hi again idruyan,

Just to let you know I have continued searching, with little extra information.

From Organic Style Magazine:
http://www.organicstyle.com/archives/soul_wos_woo.html

I found www.wearnoevil.com , a site that specialized in items from
recycled fibers and plastic. The site is now down, and the Wayback
Machine (Archive of web sites) does not have a copy of last year?s
site. Does that name sound familiar to you?

Sundance has a blanket, but it is from Crispina, one of the sites from
my original answer.

Another site that features Crispina blankets (I believe some of these
are not seen on the original site)
http://www.shabbybeak.com/id11.html

Could you have another look at Crispina? Many clues lead me to think
this *could* be the right site. The blurb below, from
www.vivisimo.com says they use Italian sweaters. Their own site says
?Our products have been featured in The New York Times, Country Home,
Traditional Home, Country Living, Organic Style, and many other
prominent publications?
http://www.crispina.com/retail/support/studio.html

?Fuchsia, Inc., owner of Crispina, imports Italian wool sweaters and
worn denim jeans and, using die-cut shapes from these materials,
refashions them into works of art as blankets, rugs, pillows, and
window treatments. ... Used wool sweaters are cleansed, softened, cut
into strips, ... are made from softened recycled wool sweaters .

There are no pictures on the 1999 Crispina site, but maybe this or one
of the others could ring a bell with you?

Idruyan, I have searched exhaustively and found nothing more. Crispina
seems like the largest maker of patchwork blankets from recycled
sweaters. I realize you specified ?cashmere? and not wool, but I have
been able to find only Crispina that states ?cashmere?. I just looked
up the meaning of ?cashmere? on the Merriam Webster?s online
dictionary, and it says that cashmere IS wool, of a goat, not sheep.
Is it possible that some makers simply call their products ?wool? ?
(Can you tell I am a bit perturbed at not being able to find this site
for you?)

 ?Etymology: Cashmere (Kashmir)
Date: 1684
1 : fine wool from the undercoat of the cashmere goat; also : a yarn of this wool
2 : a soft twilled fabric made orig. from cashmere ?

http://m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary

I have been unable so far to find any other sites. Any other clues you
may have may be helpful, but I am not sure I will be able to find any
different sites. If you have any other clues, I plan to search further
for you! Please let me know!

Regards,
crabcakes-ga
