kaci, 1) NEVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAM, NO MATTER WHAT. 2) Continue with your voice and singing lessons. 3) Stay in school until you graduate. 4) Hang out with other singers, and people with goals. 5) Don't EVER listen to people that say youi can't do it. YOU CAN. 6) Listen to your voice teacher, ask for how you can be a better singer. 7) PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.... then, practice some more... 8) Find singing competitions, and enter. 9) Try out for the shows on TV, like American Idol, Star Search, etc. 10) Most important, REREAD #1.... Good luck honey, ~~Cynthia |

Kaci~ There is nothing you can do that will guarantee that you'll ever become famous. However, you can do everything about trying to be the best singer and performer you can be. Cynthia-ga's comments are right on; as a voice teacher, I'd add these tips: * Try to explore many different types of music * Listen--like a pr--to other singers (That means listening with a critical ear to every singer you hear. What do you like and dislike about them--and why?) * Perform as often as possible and in every setting imaginable * Work as much on your performance style and professionalism as you do on your actual singing Best wishes! Kriswrite P.S. It's terrific that your teacher is a great singer. However, not all great singers are great voice teachers...and not all great voice teachers are good singers. This information may come in handy one day :) |

Another thing to think about is that being a great singer is not the same as being a famous singer. Have a listen to some of the most famous singers, and you may find that you don't think they're all great. Concentrate first on being a good singer, and enjoying yourself singing. And later, have a look at some of those books in the Music section of a bookstore about the music business. They'll tell you about publishing, and having an agent, and marketing and all the things that are necessary to become *famous*, which is a commerical fact rather than an artistic one. In the meantime, practice hard and enjoy using your voice! |

It is actually far smarter not to contact an agent at this stage of your career. Better to study, study, study (for several years), get lots of performances under your belt, develop a keen sense of style and statement, etc. before you approach any professionals in the music business. Sometimes one chance is all they give you, and you want to make sure that your presentation to them is as polished and professional as possible. If it's not near perfect, they may never listen to you again, because all they remember is the unpolished performance you gave. Kriswrite |

There are two directions you can go. If you want to be the best singer or musician that you can, then follow a lot of the advice already given here, especially that written by kriswrite-ga. Sing what you want to sing, and sing it well. Sing a lot. This will make you happy with yourself as a person and with your talent. If you want to be famous, however, this is probably not going to work. To be famous, ignore everything you like and everything that you want to do. Throw it all away. You have to follow the trends and sing what other people want you to sing, and sing it well. You have to become something that other people want you to be. And most importantly, you need a LOT of luck and you need to be the right person in the right place at the right time. Most importantly, realise that you could be the best singer in the world and nobody would care, if you're not the 'in-thing' at the time. If you are lucky enough to ever become the 'in-thing', also realise that you may not be the 'in-thing' for long, and everything very quickly becomes nothing. Best of luck though! |
