I'm looking for a DVD that shows images of art. The idea is that I can
play it when I'm not using my TV, and it will be more interesting than
a blank screen. I don't want a documentary about art or a screensaver
for my computer; I just want a DVD that will display high resolution
images of works of art, cycling through them automatically (maybe
stopping at one image for a few minutes or so). Also, I would
appreciate it if you were able to find DVDs with different types of
art on them (Old Masters, modern, etc.). Thank you.

Hello,

I went to amazon.com and searched their dvd products. I started by
searching on artist's names, like Van Gogh, for example. I didn't find
much so I tried "impressionism" and had better results. One tip I
recommend is clicking on the subject areas provided in the amazon's
item descriptions. This will often lead to additional sources. Here
are some results I found fairly quickly.

The Impressionists - The Other French Revolution
-yes, its a documentary. However, the description, from Amazon.com
mentions an accompanying photo gallery of images.

Hermitage Museum of St. Peters
-this does contain historical content but there is mention of a
"unique feature allowing the viewer to pause or zoom through the
entire presentation (containing beautiful images)."

Art and Music Volume 1
-this item apparently plays in a looped format displaying images of
impressionist paintings. Turn down the volume if you don't like the
music.

My browser just crashed so I ran out of time. I'm going to send
additional information throught the comments feature. Hope this helps
for now.

Thanks,

Yeah, the DVD titled "Art and Music Volume 1" (
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000059LH9/ ) seems to be
precisely what you're looking for. Hurry, though - there are just 5
left in stock!

The idea that it is titled "Volume 1" would seem to be a boon -
meaning the company may release more in the future. But I can't find
any information on who made this product.

But that DVD sounds like exactly what you want. Maybe minus the
Rossini music, a large portion of which was plaigarized in the making
of older Warner Brothers cartoons (such as Bugs Bunny cartoons).

Not a bad answer, in my opinion.

Hi,

I'm back with some more possibilities. One that intrigues me, but may
not be exactly what you want is Le Louvre. It really sounds cool.

Le Louvre, The Virtual Visit (DVD Rom) -
Check out the description at:
<http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004NHO7/ref%3Dbr%5Flf%5Fli%5F1%5F1/026-9404392-4583615>

Another good bet combines the music of Bach with images of art and
nature. Again, if Bach's music is not desired, the volume can be
turned off.

I tried a number of Google searches, besides searching Amazon.com. The
keywords that produced the best results are below.

Google search: dvd "images of art"

Let me know if you need additional help on this. I hope you find the
right product for your needs.

Keep on googling,

one comment, I own that Le Louvre DVD-rom (actually got it there!).
while it is very good, I don't think it's what you're looking for.
it's an interactive program and there is no "slideshow" feature. it
is also a DVD-rom; I am under the impression you need a video DVD to
play in a standard TV/DVD-plater.
