I am looking for suggestions for a name of a management training
'bootcamp'. We have been using the tem 'bootcamp' internally because
it well describes the intenstiy of the traing program we are putting
together. However "bootcamp" is not a term we wish to use in our
marketing.

I am looking for synonyms and alternatives which convey "an intense
training period"

Thanks!

Hey jmhines123-ga,

My first thought on this is that I should ask for a clarification in
terms of what type of training is involved. This would likely lead to
a less generic phrase that might have more meaning to attendees, but
I'll give it a shot.

OK, here's a second and even less useful thought - perhaps abandoning
the "boot camp" metaphor altogether should be reconsidered. I found
numerous references to computer and other educational training
programs that used this term. Are you concerned that this will somehow
intimidate people? I think they'd likely understand your meaning and
have fun with it.

You might consider some kind of sports analogy, say "Spring Training"
or "Two-a-Days." I've spent most of my life around politics, which
suggests options like "Proficiency or Death." You could go with
marketing-type phases like "Training Your Pants Off," "Drilling For
Competency," "Preparation Hell" or "Only the Qualified Survive."

Well, I guess I'm just brainstorming here and I don't notice any
rainclouds forming, so I'll leave it at that. I'll keep thinking about
this and will post any additional thoughts. I searched in Google on
"boot camp" but didn't come up with much.

Limited help. Researcher took the question without a complete answer in mind.

"Crash course" is the phrase that immediately springs to mind.

Otherwise, you could use something posh like "symposium" or "summit".
Or else something more management-speakish like "Adventure in
Excellence" or "Race for Achievement" or "Executive Goldmining".

Ok, here are my quick thoughts:

Condensed managerial training program
Compressed training schedule
Contracted training program
Time restricted program
Subject intensive training
Consolidated training program

Good luck!

A more gentle term might be orientation, or possibly internship.

If your company is multicultural or has foreign offices, several
foreign languages have words for "intense training period"

In Japanese, for example, you could use: Shugyo
(A description of a Shugyo follows)

Hope this helps,

I work in ESL (English as a Second Language) and we have Immersion or
Intensive classes that go for a couple of weeks all day long. That
might help. Also, you might want to do a play on the words. For
instance, instead of boot use acute, brute, suit, etc., you get the
idea. There must be something that rhymes or sounds like that will
work for your event. Here is a site with lots of different
dictionaries that might help.

Great Expectations?

You may also want to consider creating an anacronym which describes
your program. Here are a few examples from other companies to provide
inspiration:

BEST - Business Excellence through Simulation Training
ACE - Achieving Finance and Control Excellence

Good luck!

A couple more suggestions:
Leadership Training
Managment training camp
Management Workshop/Seminar
Leadership in Management Conference

All of my suggestions made me remember a page I had bookmarked
regarding leadership and management

Best of luck with your training camp,

Having been through Bootcamp, an explanation of what it actually is
might help you choose a term which is more in line with your thinking.

Bootcamp is an 8 week intensive training course to turn your average
joe or jane off the street into someone who is familiar with, and
qualified for further military training. Because you eat, drink and
sleep military over that period of time then I would call it more
intensive immersion training.

The instructors use many methods from cajoling and berating to
friendly advice and counselling.

Good luck!
