My cousin owns a small independant car dealership and sells cars over
eBay Motors (sells around 20 per month). He has sold over 400 cars and
has had nothing but satisfied customers (perfect feedback score of
over 400). However, there was a customer who bought a car from him
online, and after personally inspecting it, paid for it in full. It
was sold As-Is and with no implied or expressed warranty. Two months
later, the buyer contacts my cousin and says that the engine is messed
up and he wanted my cousin to replace it with a new one (about
$2500-3000). This guy did not buy an extended warranty, and it had
been over 2 months since the purchase, so obviously my cousin refused.
Now this guy is suing him in TN court (that is where he lives, my
cousin lives in GA). A lawyer gave some advice and said it would be a
rather simple case and that he would go for a dismissal of the case
for lack of jurisdiction. However, the lawyer wants a $1500 flat fee,
plus $250 per hour. Since this really is an open/shut case, and since
the lawyer wants quite a bit of money, we were wondering whether you
could find a cheaper alternative to handling this matter. Are there
any cheaper lawyers around, and if so, where can we contact them?

Visit the website www.lawguru.com and post your question there and it
will receive review and responses from many attorneys in Tennessee,
from which you can pick and choose the one who will represent you for
the best rate. Or visit the website for the Tennessee State Bar
Association to see if they have a search option to try to locate an
attorney in the specific city/county you are interested in. Good
Luck! You may also want to post a brief description of your situation
on the freeadvice.com message board, but lawguru.com is the best since
you are almost guaranteeed a response by interested attorneys.

SINCERELY,

Thanks for your suggestion. I put in a request at lawguru.com, but
have not received a response yet. I read on the website that it can
take up to 10 days to get an answer, and I don't have that much time.
I guess I'll look up TN attorneys.
