I am looking for historic links between the above English towns. So
far I have found that the designer of the Spitfire was from Stoke and
designed the plane in Southampton. Any more links please?

Dear stuartmlambert-ga,
I have spent some time on this one, but can only find one further
connection. It is a famous connection, but I am wondering whether you
were seeking a longer list. Let me know your views on whether you
would accept this as an answer.
Thanks

Ideally I'd like two or three other than the Spitfire link, but one
more is better than nothing! So yes, I'd accept it but if you can dig
up any more I'll pay a bit more too!

P.s - as long as the one you have is a good, historic link - something
showing a past partnership or connection between the towns!

Dear stuartmlambert-ga,
I'll place it as a comment as you were seeking more and it was all I could find.

Captain of the Titanic was born in Stoke and lived in Southampton.

"Edward John Smith was born in Stoke-on-Trent on the 27th January
1850. He went to school until 13.
Seven years after joining the White Star line, he received his first
command??..(?)?.Edward had a young daughter, Helen and lived with her
and his wife, Eleanor, in Winn Road, Southampton. He was last seen on
the bridge, just before 'Titanic' went under so it is universally
recognised that he died in the disaster."

Senior 4th Engineer, Leonard Hodgkinson, who also died in the sinking
of the Titanic was another passenger who hailed from Stoke-on-Trent
but resided in Southampton at the time of his death.
