I am a web developer and have a jewelry store as a client. The owner
needs to be able to keep an inventory of his diamonds (Cut,Color,Carat
Weight, Clarity, etc) in a Palm database. The software must have the
ability to import its records from an ASCII text file. Does not need
to have an export feature, as the Palm is simply a BROWSER, no
changing to the inventory will be done via the Palm. Any help would
be greatly appreciated!

If the great answer above doesn't bring you to a software package that
works well, something I use for this exact thing is (well.. not
diamonds, but..) ThinkBytes Technology's ThinkDB.

I have the 2.0 version, but I believe they have progressed since then.
The software is easy to setup for any type of database, downloads,
uploads and syncs with a number of other ODBC databases. Also you can
setup forms and order taking features without too much hair loss :-)

search on Google for
+"ThinkBytes Technology" +ThinkDB

or go to
http://www.thinkingbytes.com

The page is slow but probably worth the wait.

Good luck with your project.

You can also post your requirement to freelance website (my favorite
is: http://www.rentacoder.com) where you can invite developers to bid.
You will be amazed on how low one can bid for your custom project.
Your project description sounds pretty simple (I myself do Palm
programming) and an amount of anywhere between $50 - $150 might get
you what you need.
