Please look at this book cover:

It's the "Love is a Verb" book I mentioned in the comment below. The
cover photo is quite striking, I'm sure you'll remember it if this is
actually the book.

Hi there!

No luck finding a book just yet, but I've found plenty of quotes! To
wit:

"Fear is faith that it won't work out."
"If you really want to be happy, nobody can stop you!"
"Love is a verb."
"Many are called, but few are called back."

I'll bother my local bookseller tomorrow and see what they can find -
the shop I frequent has the reputation for being able to get any book,
in or out of print, and the staff has done a great job of digging up
some really obscure authors.

It would help, though, if you had an idea of who might have published
this book?

Thanks for the quotes -- Reading them is what makes me want to get the
book. I remember seeing it in a bookstore as a kid. It was a
paperback, at least the copy I saw. There was a photo of the author on
the front cover. Sadly, I know absolutely nothing else about the book
-- who published it, when, etc. I am sure the last name is correctly
spelled.

I searched the internet myself with no success for several days.
Thanks for your efforts!

I would have sworn I had it, that Sister Mary Ellen Edmunds was Sister
Mary Tricky, and that the book is "Love is a Verb" which I've seen
attributed as a quote to both of them. The second edition was
published in 1995, I couldn't find the first edition anywhere to see
if "Tricky" was worked into the title. I can't find proof one way or
the other.

Thanks so much for looking. That's not the book. The cover of the book
I am thinking about had a young nun in full habit on it. She looked
like she was skipping happily.

Morris -- Your suggestion isn't far-fetched; I researched this briefly
and wondered the same thing. Mormons (which Edmunds is) frequently
use the titles of Brother or Sister, and the contents of Edmunds'
books appear like they would be consistent with Tricky's quotes. But
there's nothing in her bio on the following page to indicate she wrote
under any pen name, and there's even less to indicate she has been a
nun. I do find it interesting that there's no info to be found (at
least not where I looked) about someone who is quoted so frequently.

Here is an entry at the U. S. Copyright Office for a later book:

I have not been able to find any contact information for the Center or

I believe that the Copyright Office does not have online entries
before 1978, so I did not find the title of the 1970s book.

The possibility that Mary Ellen Edmunds and Sister Mary Tricky are two
names for the same author is certainly intriguing.

I did find an alternate cover for Edmunds' book "Love Is a Verb,"
available through the Brigham Young University Bookstore. The cover
linked by morris-ga is a photograph of a smiling woman (presumably
Mary Ellen Edmunds) chomping on a carrot. This cover is a pastoral
painting of two women and a child in a field.

rather slow to load, so the picture may not come up right away.)

Unfortunately, there is no nun on this cover, either.

Would someone please tell me exactly why this question remains unanswered?

Too tricky?
