Hello sageworksinc-ga

I have put some enquiries out to several companies that produce DC
motor but no one seems to be producing motor of such high power.

One of the rapresentative answered:

"The maximum speed we would offer in a separate field motor (not in a
series one) would be around 4000rpm."

Would you be interested in this contact ?

Hello sageworksinc-ga

as willing as I am to help you I have to admit I am very ignorant in
this field and your last clarification request got me really confused.
The maximum speed I found for you is 4000rpm.
Would you like me to request a quote for
4 DC motors 10kw at 4000rpm
4 DC motors 50kw at 4000rpm ?

To be more clear I will write here the reply that I received and you
will tell me if it is worth pursuing.
I sent quote requests to a dozen of vendors. Most of them answered
that they do not produce motors of such power. One reply looked
interesting and I copy it down here

"
Dear ...,
We thank you for the opportunity given to propose motors in compliance
with your below specification . As you may realize, the speed
indicated is fairly high for a DC motor drive and unfortunately brings
us to decline this request as our product range does not include such
high speed DC motor.

The maximum speed we would offer in a separate field motor (not in a
series one) would be around 4000rpm.
Sorry we will not be able to assist you on this project and we take
this opportunity to wish you an happy new year 2004.

Best regards,
....."

Hi sageworksinc-ga

I didn't forget about you, only I got no answer for the quote I
requested so far. Today though I got a mail from a DC motors
manufacturer that asks for more details of what you want in order to
give you a quote.
I will copy the mail here and if you can let me know the answer I can
reply to the manufacturer.

Here is the text
"Your request for quote below only gives me the electrical rating. Do
you
have a specific enclosure & cooling method in mind so we know what
physical
frame size, mounting, & cooling requirements?

This will be a direct coupled load and not a belt driven application,
correct?
Are there any application or environmental issues that we need to be
aware
of? "

Just thought I'd point out that you really should consider a different
technology for at the very least the higher power motors. Series
wound dc motors are not very efficient, and I've never even heard of
ones that operate at voltages of 400V. In that voltage range you
should look at either brushless permanent magnet motors, or if size is
not a concern AC induction motors.

A company in Virginia makes the most efficient motors I'm aware of in
multi-kilowatt sizes. Their name is New Generation Motors and their
website is www.ngmcorp.com.

Good luck.
