Question ID: 294821
I am setting up a point of sale system for a small business. We will
be using a regular pc running XP and Quickbooks Pro 2002 as the point
of sale software.

I've looked at third party POS software but think we can do everything
we need in Quickbooks itself, which we already own.

The problem is I'm not sure what I need to make Quickbooks print to a
regular receipt printer after making a sale.
The idea is to have small, professional receipts.I would like to have
the ammount, job number or item etc on the receipt.

Is this possible? If so, what will I need? I have a Verifone 900
printer which idealy I would like to use to keep costs down. If not,
another inexpensive printer would be okay, but I need to know what
cables/drivers/etc I will need and how to do it.

Thanks!

Hi clockwork,

You'll find a printer, etc. here:

Hi clockwork,

I realized the links were for QB POS, that is why I just posted them
as a comment. I've dug a bit deeper and found this thread - sorry to
say, the news is not good:

"The Pole display and receipt printer have to take information that's
formatted for the ports they are connected to. QB2002, 03, 04 all are
formatted for windows printers, not receipt printers and do not truncate
entries for pole displays."

I hope someone else can come up with a solution for you.

I've found a cable that connects a receipt printer (verifone 900) to
the pc, I think it just gets installed as a generic text only printer,
maybe there is a way to format the receipts in quickbooks to fit?

if not, are there any standard inkjet printers that will print on
smaller forms, like preprinted receipt forms...maybe 3 or 4 inches
wide? it would have to be able to hold a lot, filling it up all the
time would be annoying
