My husband likes nice white T-shirts and other decent clothes. He
likes to look clean and, depending on what he's doing, a certain
blue-collar flavor of professional.

My husband likes diesel motors and other oily things. (No smart-alec
comments! :> )

My husband has an unfortunate tendency to try to have these things at
the same time.

Is there anything I can do to some of his clothes, or any particular
type of clothes I can buy, that will allow him to have both a diesel
engine hobby and still retain some decent clothes?

Yes, I know, "don't wear the white shirt into the garage". We've
already been through that. I'm looking for alternate solutions.

Hi hammer,

Having had this problem myself, (My youngest daughter is a mechanic,
and my husband was a telcom tech who has nothing but messy hobbies) I
empathize with you! In my case, my ?grease monkeys? did not care about
their appearance while tinkering with engines, so mine was not so
problematic.

Some of the solutions I found for you are Scotchguarding new clothes,
buying Teflon or Nano-care clothes, and trying disposable clothing! (I
won?t be in the least surprised if several of my fellow researchers
add some unique ideas!)

Nano-Care
Thanks to nano-technology, you may soon have a selection of truly
stain-proof clothing for your husband. Nano-care is a stain ?proofer?
that leaves clothes highly resistant to stains, yet leaves clothes
with their original texture and feel. Several companies are now
licensed to sell Nano-care, but few items are available. No tee-shirts
were found with this technology.

?In just a couple of years, Nano-Tex has licensed Nano-Care to about
50 apparel companies. Sprayed onto jeans, it is the stuff that makes
clothes sold by Levi's, Eddie Bauer, Gap and Old Navy
stain-resistant.? (I found nothing with nano-care on the Old Navy or
Gap sites however)

Teflon:
The same Teflon used in your pan, to keep eggs from sticking, is used
in stain fighting. It seems this coating will allow almost anything to
come out in the wash!

Cabela?s sells Wolverine brand work tee shirts. These shirts are ?100%
cotton construction with a TeflonŪ-coated, stain-repellent finish for
protection from work-site use and abuse?. Unfortunately they come only
in Khaki, Black, Gray Heather, Hunter Green, and not White. (Maybe in
exchange for having a clean shirt, your husband would consider khaki
or heather gray??)

Seems stain resistant clothing is more common in the UK than in the
US. One must be either messier than the other, or cleaner than the
other!

Stewardsons, in the UK, has the Geo Short Sleeve Teflon shirt, (seems
comfy enough), and they MAY ship to the US ??countries outside the UK
may incur extra delivery costs, please enquire.?

Singers Outdoors, also in the UK carries some men?s Teflon pants.

Carrilon, also in the UK, sells a Teflon shirt, the Regata x-ERT shirt
, and MAY ship to the US ?Overseas Carriage: All Overseas orders are

Blue Generation is making Teflon coated clothing for men, but I found
no tee-shirts or similar casual styles. Perhaps in the near future
they will!

Scotchguard:

Scotchguard is another option, and it reportedly makes clothing
resistant to oil and grease stains. I can vouch that it has kept pizza
stains off my couch!

??Scotchguard to help resist water and oily stains; most stains will
disappear with normal washing.?

http://www.blankshirts.com/ztatic_S511.htm

?To prevent your childrenīs clothing from becoming stained, and to
keep it looking like new, you can treat the fabric with Scotchguard.
You can purchase a can in most department stores. Simply spray the
clothing before washing the first time, allow to dry, and launder as
usual. In the future, you will be amazed at what you can simply wipe
off your childrenīs clothes.?

Finally, Gemplers has plain ?ole white tee shirts for men. $6.90 USD
for 1-11 shirts, $6.24 USD for greater than 12. Treated with some
Scotchguard, this might work until Nano-care becomes widespread!

My hubby is a grease-money, and manages to get grease all over his
clothes doing the most seemingly innocent tasks. What has worked
wonders and is very simple is to use Spray'n'Wash. Just spray it on
greasy spots, rub the fabric together, and toss it in the washer.
