Hi! Thanks for the question.

I will try to answer your questions in a point-by-point manner.

1. What is non-linear video editing?

?Non-linear editing is the ability to easily change the order of the
timeline of clips and perform other editing functions without having
to rely on a sequential sequence (such as a tape). It's commonly
performed on a computer using digitally encoded video material with
editing software such as Adobe Premiere. ?

?Once you have stored the video on your PC, you can arrange Clips on
what is called a timeline using your video editing package. Known as
Non-Linear Editing, digital video enables the user to quickly and
easily arrange your film the way you want it. The original footage is
never altered: the timeline merely points to ins and out points in the
clips on your hard drive, so any changes you make can be easily
undone. Once your happy with the way your movie looks, you can output
the video to a suitable file format...?

?Once video has been saved to the computer, it can be edited using a
non-linear video editingsystem. This is a computer-based,
software-driven system, allowing you to create video clips in any
length, sequence them, and access them instantaneously in any program
mode. Non-linear video is based on the idea of a timeline, containing
both video and audio tracks, where custom-built clips (of video
content) are placed sequentially. Post-production is the notion of
creating special effects and text-based titles in your video project?

Most non linear video work can be done on any average computer.
However, if you have a dedicated video editing card it can speed up
the rendering of your video clips.

Most quality video editing software packages are fairly expensive but
you can get free trials of all the main editing programs ... from
Adobe Premiere Pro to Apple's iMovie. There's a collection of links to
trial downloads here:

Note that most of the trials downloads cease to work after 30 days.
