I'm looking for a company in New Zealand (preferably on the net or at
least with an email address!) who is able to supply a full range of
New Zealand Confectionery (Cadburys, Nestle, Mars etc) to (us) a UK
company for export (exporting to be handled by us). A successful
answer will be considered to be that the company is prepared to supply
us and that they offer a full range of goods by these manufacturers
and similar (products named on request).

As per the Subject, we are looking for a wholesaler/distributor not retailer.

Dear Algernon,

Could you please explain what you mean by "New Zealand Confectionery",
given the names that you chosen (Cadbury, Nestle, etc.)? These are
international companies who already have US distributor(s), and whose
distribution agreements usually do not permit the export and import of
their products from other countries.

If you would agree, I could provide you with the contact details of US
licensed distributors of these confectionary sorts and other food
types that is popular in NZ. If you'll reply, I will hopefully receive
notification thereof.

I'm looking for a New Zealand based wholesaler of confectionery
manufactured in New Zealand by Cadburys New Zealand, Nestle New
Zealand etc, not the licensed manufacturers or distributors.
Wholesalers are rarely restricted by such contracts or agreements. I
refer you to my original question regarding what will be considered a
successful answer.

Hello Algernon,

I emailed a candy wholesaler in New Zealand about your question. They
currently handle some Cadbury items and *may* be able to handle others
as well.

Specifically, they wrote:

=====

Yes. Please tell me more about your organisation. We currently
manufacture Cadbury licensed products and have capacity available to
handle export sales. We are currently exploring another opportunity
which is offering us a good margin. If we are to start a mutually
beneficial relationship I would suggest we meet...

=====

That's all the information I have, at the moment. If it is of
interest to you, it's probably best that you pick up the discussion
yourself with this fellow.

Do you want me to post full contact information as an answer to your question?

Please understand in advance that the information I would provide does
not appear (at present) to meet your criteria of a "successful
answer", although the company's capacity regarding other brand names
may expand in the near future. Nevertheless, I thought it might be
of interest to you.

Let me know what you think.

Sorry must fit the criteria specified. From the sounds of it you are
in contact with a manufacturer, which is unlikely to be suitable. We
need a full range, wholesaler (i.e. established in this business),
prepared to supply to a UK company. I should add that they do not
need to be an exporter because this will all be handled by our agents.
They just need to sell at standard wholesale rates (payment in
advance, goods to be collected)a full range as specified.

Thanks...that helps clarify things. I'll keep looking.

Hello again,

Please have a look at this site:

http://www.confectionerypalace.co.nz/

They are a NZ candy/food distributor, and handle the popular brands
Cadbury, M&Ms and other Mars candies, Nestle, Hershey, Toblerone --
you can see many of them pictured on their website.

I've identified one other distributor that handles Cadbury and Nestle
and a few other less well known brands, but doesn't appear to be quite
as diverse as the Confectionary Palace.

My question to you is: what, exactly, would you like me to do?

Shall I contact the companies to see if they are willing to enter into
an export arrangement (those conversations are always very awkward,
because the companies want details -- and I don't have any to
offer...!)

Or do you simply want me to post full contact information and product
descriptions for the two distributorships (and any others I may find,
although these two may well be it!).

Let me know your thoughts on how to best proceed.

Hi algernon,

Many New Zealand retailers get confectionary and other grocery items
from a wholesaler called 'Gilmours' - they are a wholesale outlet for
a all the products you mention, and almost every grocery product
widely available in NZ.

They are online at: www.gilmours.co.nz and can be contacted by phone
on +64-9-621-0700

This company is the largest grocery wholesaler in NZ and supply a wide
variety of business. However, larger buyers, such as supermarket
chains, tend to deal directly with the manufacturers and distributors.

Gilmours should be able to act as a single source for all the products
you are looking for.

Please feel free to contact them if you like, or let me know precisely
what products you are looking for an I can contact them locally.

Regards,
Sycophant-ga
