Are there any places one can purchase a laser razor in the U.S.A.? I
saw one listed in a Sharper Image catalog years ago, but haven't been

Hello !

I think what you are looking for coud be this

Non-Bleeding Edge
Making mincemeat of the Gillette Mach 3, Light Solutions' Laser Razor
dispenses with sharpened steel entirely and smoothes your beard or
body with a solid-state semiconductor laser. To use it, you apply a
cooling gel - just like shaving cream - and shave as usual. The
lightshaver's near-infrared beam penetrates your skin to make all your
stubble fall out in about two days, while temporarily stunting hair
follicles to delay future growth. The result is a shave so close,
it'll last a couple of months.

Available 2010.
Laser Razor: $500. Light Solutions: +1 (650) 335 1100,
www.lightsol.com.

I found this description in the Wired archives
http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/8.01/fetish_pr.html

Hope it helps

I believe the above answers link to Wired magazine is some kind of
'Future Products' info - all of the products 'listed' in the article
have "Available DATE" at the end of them. The Laser Razor one above
says 'Available 2010'. I went to www.lightsol.com and could find
nothing about a model of laser razor being sold for home use. If I am
mistaken about this, I'm sorry - I'm just trying to help out and I
hope you find what you're looking for. :)

Good luck,

dandrick-ga is right, the razor is not available for sale right now.
Research is still happening on the subject, the Journal of Research of
the National Institute of Standards and technology states in an
article on December 2000 states that researcher are working with
Gillettes for improved "laser razor" techniques
http://nvl.nist.gov/pub/nistpubs/jres/105/6/j56nbr.pdf

They also give some contact names at the end of the article
CONTACT: Larry K. Iwaki, (301) 975-8525; lawrence.
iwaki@nist.gov or Todd A. Heimer, (301) 975-4159;
todd.heimer@nist.gov or Edwin J. Heilweil, (301) 975-
2370; edwin.heilweil@nist.gov.

Is it possible that also the catalogue you saw was referring to an
item available in the future ?

Sorry not to have better news on the current availability
