In the latter part of last year, perhaps as early as August or
September, I saw a small (~2x3") advertisement with photo of a vase in
Esquire Magazine. I cut it out but have lost it; I'm eager to find
and order this vase as soon as possible.

I have called the Esquire Magazine Editor, who checked the October
through December 2001 issues without success; he then referred me to
your website.

The photograph was B&W, so I don't know if the vase is made of glass
(possibly frosted?), or colored porcelain, ceramic, or what. I don't
recall seeing any dimensions for the piece, so don't know the size.
The craftsman's mailing address was New York, and the price on the
vase (back then) was $350.

From top to bottom (in ascending sizes), the vase is covered with
PERFECT BREASTS. It is quite unusual. I am a bit concerned that
someone else may find it first and buy up all the vases that are
available; if possible, could your researchers look for it before
making the information in my question available to the public?

Many thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Hi newlife!

Surprisingly, I've found your vase. By accident, while looking for
something else.

The title of the piece is called "Kiki", and it's part of New York
artisan Jonathan Adler's "Muse Collection". You're right, the vase
*is* quite unusual...it's rather reminiscent of Eastern Fertility
Goddess statues I've seen at my local art museum. I must admit, I
like Mr. Adler's vase that features a series of beautiful lips
considerably more than the Kiki vase, lips being so much more
expressive.

But you're not looking for amateur art critiquing from the likes of
me, you want this vase! Here's where to find it (because of the
somewhat erotic nature of the vase, I won't be linking directly to it,
you'll need to play a bit of follow the links):

Jonathan Adler Studios
http://www.jonathanadler.com

Select the Pottery link, then the Muse picture, then click on the
vase. The medium is unglazed English porcelain, 8 inches high, priced
at $350. Mr. Adler also has 3 stores and is featured in boutiques
worldwide:

Jonathan Adler Stores
http://www.jonathanadler.com/store_locations.html

The vase's description mentions that Kiki de Montparnasse, for whom
the vase is named, was the subject of a famous photograph - Le Violin
d'Ingres. You can see that photo here:

Le Violin d'Ingres

The Kiki vase can be had for slightly less than $350. You can
purchase it through Velocity for $315:

Velocity Art and Design

Select Ceramics, then Jonathan adler, then Muse Porcelain Collection.

Perhaps of further interest, a bio of Mr. Adler is available here:

...and CNN featured him last year in their Arts & Style section:

Ceramist Adler adds furniture to his creations
http://www.cnn.com/2001/STYLE/design/01/25/jonathan.adler/

The Kiki vase seems to be a popular piece, one the artisan is still
making, so I don't think you need to worry too much about someone
nabbing all of them! I hope you're able to purchase this piece you've
been seeking without too long of a wait!

Best regards,

missy-ga

themed gift for my sister. Tripped over Mr. Adler's site, saw the
vase, and wondered if this question was still open.
