The iPod supports MP3s. However, it does not support the Windows Media
codec (files whose suffix is .wma). Is it possible that the file you
want is in this format?

"The iPod supports MP3 (up to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR (variable bit rate),
WAV, and AIFF files, and is firmware upgradeable... Also,
unfortunately, the Windows Ipod cannot play WMA files (direct CD rips
or high quality Windows Media sound files). MP3 files only."

I believe I know the problem. Sometimes, MPEG-1 audio files are
incorrectly tagged as .mp3. I would suggest the following:

a) Open the file(s) using QuickTime player. If it opens, tell me the
audio format by going to the menus - Movie: Get Movie Properties:
Sound Track.
b) Download Apple iTunes. This digital music player is Apple's own
client, and likely has better support for the iPod. Grab it here:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
c) Download the latest iPod Fireware update. As danbpearl-ga noted,
the latest updates may let you play more audio file formats. Grab it
here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120229
Note that this firmware update is for iPods with a Dock Connector.

These downloads are free and require Windows 2000/XP/Mac OS X.

Let me know if these suggestions resolve your issue. Good luck!

The iPod is designed to be used with Apple's software called iTunes.
You may already have this if you're using a Mac (I can't tell, since
MusicMatch works with both Macs and PCs, so far as I know). Or you may
find it helpful to download a copy for Mac or PC (from
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ ).

It's possible that MusicMatch is doing something that's confusing the
iPod. In which case, I would find where the MP3s are on your hard
drive (maybe MusicMatch will let you see the files themselves, or you
could search for "mp3") and open them in iTunes.

It should then be unproblematic to copy them to your iPod from within
iTunes. (Old iPods will not, however, accept the new m4a format
without downlaoding a software upgrade.)
