-	Under 5 pounds would be nice but not required
-	Something solid, not so easily breakable like some of the sony vaio I have had.
-	Graphics card that is OK for games.

jimwest-ga:

The Dell Inspiron 600m would definitely meet your requirements, with
the exception of the under-5-lbs one (which you mention is optional,
anyway). In that category of laptops, the 600m is the best
'bang-for-the-buck' in my opinion, it's actually the one I'm eying,
myself. I've looked at every major-brand option, as well as every
lesser-known brand I can find, and the Dell wins out in my book.
Unfortunately, I'm not a 10-yr old boy, so not sure if that
endorsement helps!

I love my Powerbook, but I suspect it's not what you're looking for.
However, in the realm of PC laptops, I've heard that IBM laptops
(which are often not the cheapest) tend to be more durable and
reliable than some of their competitors. You might want to take that
into consideration.

I agree he doesn't want a powerbook, but a loaded 12" ibook would be
perfect. I priced one with 640MB RAM, 40Gig HD, combo drive (DVD ROM,
CD-RW) and the education price (any student, anywhere is eligible) is
$1156.

Really, just consider it.
