There are two songs on "The Court Jester" CD (of the movie with Danny
Kaye) that are not on the movie, at least not on the VHS version.
These are "I Live to Love" and "Pass the Basket". Where do these
songs come from? Were they in the original version of the movie and
cut from the VHS tape? If so, why? Or were they extra songs that
were written for the movie and never made it in? Are they on the DVD?

Dbalbert,

Thank you very much for accepting my remarks as the answer to your
question. I sincerely wish there were better news for you, since I am
a longtime Danny Kaye fanatic who loves "The Court Jester" with a
passion that could overflow the chalice from the palace. I am
reposting the newsgroup post which confirms my suspicions: the songs
you're asking about were dropped from the film.

"Also, the Varese Sarabande soundtrack (VSD-5498) in cludes several
musical numbers which were 'not included in the finished version of
the film'! ('I Live to Love,' a musical version of his courting
Angela Lansbury, 'Where Walks My True Love,' and 'Pass the Basket,'
which is the musical intro to an extended "Maladjusted Jester.")
Clearly the soundtrack was recorded separately from the movie- all of
the songs are performed differently; does anyone know if any of these
scenes were filmed?"

Here is an excerpt from another newsgroup post on the subject:

"The Varese Sarabande release contains 3 songs not in the film...'I
live to Love'....'Pass the Basket'....and 'Where Walks My True Love.'
"

There is a possible silver lining to this cloud, however. There is a
trend toward the production of lavish "Special Edition" DVDs which
include features such as deleted scenes. It is my hope that "The Court
Jester" will receive the "special" treatment it deserves, and someone
will go through the film vaults to resurrect any material that might
be retrievable. There is no certainty that this will happen, of
course, but I live in hope. After all, the long-lost "Jitterbug" scene
from "The Wizard of Oz" was partially restored on DVD.

Best wishes,

I love this movie so much! If these songs were ever filmed, I
certainly wish someone would include the footage containing them on a
'Special Edition' DVD. They aren't on the DVD that's currently in
release.

Others have asked about this, and I haven't seen any definitive answer:
