1) I would like to know how many swim and tennis clubs there are in
the US. 2) If possible find a list source that could be used to direct
market to them. My definition of a swim and tennis club is any home
subdivision that has tennis courts and a pool. They charge annual or
monthly dues to use their facilities and may or may not be open to
public membership.

I'm not finding any such organized list. It appears as though a
researcher would have to compile this list manually. Is there an
acceptable number of facilities a researcher should have on this list?

I am guessing there are between 5,000 and 10,000 in the US. So
manually compiling a list would be very expensive, unless you really
want to do this work.
Some ideas for research would be to search state incorporation records
for the words "swim" and "Tennis", since all the clubs are non-profit
groups and are incorporated in their state. Is there a national
incorporation search engine or do you have to go to each state
separately ? Also, if there was some way to search pool construction
records, I think you need to have a permit to construct a pool.

I can direct you to a searchable listing that contains several
thousand swim and tennis clubs nationwide. You can search the
listings for the country as a whole, or one state at a time. The
listings then are displayed 15 at a time --you have to click through
the pages each time to advance to the next 15.

Listings look like this:

300 Swim & Tennis Club
3715 Northwest 12th Avenue, Gainesville, FL 32605
(352) 378-2898

4 H Youth Agents - New London Swim Club
815 West Washington Street, New London, WI 54961
(920) 982-8524

Aberdeen Country Club - Kitchen & Swimming Pool
300 Country Club Road, Aberdeen, MS 39730
(662) 369-2972

Abilene Swim Club Inc
301 Ruidosa Avenue, Abilene, TX 79605
(325) 692-1395

Academy Swim Club
203 South Elmwood Drive, Aurora, IL 60506
(630) 264-2223

and so on...

I can't vouch for comprehensiveness. Although most public clubs are
probably listed, the types of subdivision pools may or may not be
included (if you'd like, give me the names of a few such clubs, and I
can check if they are included on the list).

Let me know if this list would be of interest as an answer to your question.

Hello again, mags311-ga,

Thanks for the opportunity to answer your question.

The first step in your quest is to head to the SuperPages Yellow Pages site:

http://www.superpages.com/

and click on the yellow tab (near the top of the page) that says
"Nationwide Search". This will take you to a page with a "Search by
Business Name" box.

Entering terms in this box will find businesses nationwide with ALL
the terms in their name. Entering just "swim", for instance, will
find swim clubs, swimming pool supplies, repairs, installation, etc.

I suggest entering the words [ swim club ] and clicking on "Find It".
This will bring you to a page with 1,953 listings of swim clubs around
the nation. As I said earlier, these are presented 15 to a page, so
you'll have to click through quite a number of pages to get the whole
list.

If you prefer you can choose an individual state (rather than the
whole nation) and get the swim clubs listed one state at a time.

A similar search on [ tennis club ] will return 2,210 clubs around the
nation. Some amount of overlap with the "swim club" list is
inevitable, since many of these clubs are "swimming and tennis clubs"
and thus will appear on both lists.

I hope this information fully meets your needs. If anything here is
not clear, just let me know by posting a Request for Clarification,
and I'll be happy to assist you further.

Best of luck.
