I reinstalled Windows XP on my computer, and it seems as though the
True Type Hebrew font that I was using now displays "squares" for many
of the characters (in Word and in the Character Map utility). I
downloaded some other Hebrew fonts, and it seems to be doing the same
thing.

On this page, http://user.dtcc.edu/~berlin/font/hebrew.htm
the Lashon Tov font looks basically fine, but the Dor font does the
rectangles (when I double click the TTF files).

Please read this question before embarking on answer:

When I go into something like MS Word and select one of the fonts I
used to use, Word simply ignores the fact that I've selected the font
and defaults back to Times New Roman.

Due to the nature of this question, I'm only going to accept an answer
that works. Thanks.

Hi barryf,
I have the same problem with XP. I just haven't gotten around to ask
Microsoft for the answer.

Thanks, Rafael.... already have that installed actually. But it turns
out I figured out the problem -- it was a corrupt font!
