This is a large multifunction device made by Hewlett Packard.
I'm stumped about a few things, and would love to know more about
this capable new model (it's currently LAN-connected in an Active
Directory environment, and also hooked up using an optional analog fax
module).
 1. How do I scan something with it and send that document to a network share?
 2. How do I fax something from someone's desktop through this device?
 3. The after-fax confirmation page is rather skimpy on details - is there
a more "verbose" mode - to make it describe the number of pages sent,
    for example?

pcventures-ga:

I am quite surprised by the lack of proper user guides provided by HP
for this multi-function unit, and am equally surprised by how limited
the feature set actually is once one starts digging deeper into the
workings of the MFP 4101.

After reviewing all of the manuals, tips, and service guides that HP
makes available online, I'd have to say the following:

1. Apparently, the scanning capabilities of the MFP 4101 and the DSS
software can only be used to send a scanned image to an e-mail
address, or to a fax recipient. While the DSS software is apparently
capable of sending scans to a network location, this requires a
different model of MFP and a different license pack to enable this
feature.

2. Sending out a print-job as a fax is something that most network
multi-function peripherals can do; not, apparently, the MFP 4101.
Neither the DSS software nor the print driver appear to support this
capability.

3. The only option available for the fax confirmation page is whether
or not to include a thumbnail version of the first page:

Sorry for this bad news. On the brighter side, the MFP 4101 is
firmware-upgradeable, so it is possible that one day HP may yet
rewrite the firmware to support your requests.

I did find that there is an optional software pack that seems to
enable some of the functionality I seek. Since someone else is
responsible for the purchase, they'll have to get it, but I'll have to
try it.
Thank you so much for the diligent research into the functionality of this unit.
