I have joined a business environment where I will be the chief
architect of a Date Warehouse implementation. I have prepared myself
for this position by boning up on the requisite texts for data
modeling, with an emphasis on Kimball-style dimensional data warehouse
design.

However, an area which I am unfamiliar with is the use of aggregate
tables in data warehouses and how to navigate them with reporting
tools. I would like an explanation of the purpose and use of aggregate
tables in a data warehouse environment.
