I need to know the incidence (new cases each year) and prevelance
(number in the population)of several types of cancer in various areas
of the world.  I need an actual number for the prevelance, not a
prediction of say 4.7/million, unless you can also provide the
population.  I would like as current information as possible, but
anything from 2000 and later great.

I need the source for all the information.

The types of cancer that I need to know about are the following 1)
Liver, 2)Colon, 3) Pancreatic 4) Small Intestine 4)All cancer as a
single category

I need these the following countries: Germany, Spain, France, Italy,
UK,  Belgium,Portugal, Austria. (Listed in order of
preference....meaning that if you can provide the information for the
top 5 that would be good, all 8 would be amazing.)  If you have other
countries that are easily accessible, that would also be helpful, and
I would be pleased to offer a tip.  However, I would prefer this
information sooner, (like as quickly as possible) rather than more
information later.

I also need some of the information for the US, but ONLY the
prevelance.  I already have the incidence.

I would REALLY appreciate the help with this!!

Hello,

I have found a source of data that has year 2000 incidence and
prevelance data for all the countries you asked about, and dozens of
others as well, all around the world.

I am extracting the relevant data, and compiling it into an answer for
you.  But I do need a bit of guidance, if you would be so kind:

1)  The data combine figures for colon and rectal cancer -- will that
suit your needs?

2)  Data for cancer of the small intestine -- a fairly rare form of
cancer -- is not reported.  Many other more common cancers are
reported in the data set.  Can you live without the small intestine
data?  Is there another cancer type that you would like data on
instead?

Let me know your preferences here, and I'll try to wrap things up as
quickly as I can, since it seems that you would like an answer as
rapidly as possible.

Thank you so VERY much!  Yes, it is just fine to combind the colon and
rectal cancer.  If the small intestine is not available - that will be
OK if you can substitute the other top two industrialized nations with
the highest numbers of the types of cancers that you do have. Let me

I should be able to accomodate just about all you've asked for in your
clarification, but it will take me a day, probably, to amass the
appropriate data...I hope that meets with your time frame.

The data in the database are presented separately for males and
females.  I will combine these into a single number for the entire
population of each country.

Hello - 

I just wanted to clarify.  I did not mean that I needed the statistics
for every type of cancer that there is.  I only meant to add another
high volume industrialized country or so, for the liver, colon-rectal,
pancreas and the category all cancers together.  For instance, if
there are a high number of liver cancers in some industrialized
country that is not on my list, then add that one.  I  appreciate your
hard work in this area - and look forward to the reply.  If you have
any other questions, just ask and I will answer right away.

The source of the data is the Globocan 2000 database maintained by
IARC -- the International Agency for Research on Cancer.  You can find
information on Globocan 200 and other data sources at:

where they describe the database in detail, and the methods used to
collect and normalize the data.  Any questions you may have about data
definitions should be answered in the documents provided here.

Clicking on the Globocan 2000 icon will bring up a small window where
you can actually access the full dataset.  For the most part, it is
fairly self-evident how to use it to access data on several dozen
types of cancer, and for many countries around the world.  (Pay
careful attention to detail, however -- I didn't realize at first the
data was segregated by gender.)

GLOBOCAN 2000 is a unique software program which provides access to
information on the incidence and prevalence of, and mortality from 26
major cancers for all the countries in the world in 2000.

GLOBOCAN 2000 software allows simple manipulation of data into a
variety of tables, graphs, charts, or maps that can be easily exported
or printed. The user can extract numbers of incident or prevalent
cases and deaths, or the corresponding incidence and mortality rates
for five age groups.
 
Cancers and countries can be grouped together and compared as desired. 

GLOBOCAN 2000 allows estimation of future cancer burden using
user-specified trends and population figures that are included in the
package.

In addition, the software license allows free downlaod of updates of

I'm glad to hear these data are what you needed.

The mistake I made was more a spreadsheet error (adding the wrong
columns) rather than anything inherent to the Globocan dataset. 
Instead of adding the number of male + female data to get the total
number, I mistakenly added the male (cases + prevalance) and then the
same for the female data, to come up with, essentially, a meaningless
statistic.

As for your offer of a tip...thank you so much for the thought.  If
