Since I did not get any answers from either the Britannica telephone
or e-mail I am posting it a Google-answers:

"I have subscribed to the online Britannica in hope of finding
articles describing in layman language how windows 95 and/or 98 and
other computer items work, similar to an article I found in the
library in the Britannica (maybe an older version). Searching for
"windows" only gives me "an opening in the wall..." Searching through
"computers", "operating systems" and "microsoft" also led nowhere.
Would highly appreciate if you could inform me via e-mail to
ale@bcpl.net (not by telephone since my hearing is very poor) how to
go about this and wether there are instructions somewhere how to
search the Britannica and whether older versions are available
online."

I wonder if somebody in Google could answer this question and if
others have had similar unsatisfactory experience with the Britannica

Hi vaac,

Have you read through this guide page from the Online Encyclopaedia Britannica ?
http://corporate.britannica.com/GUIDED_TOUR_final.pdf

Since you are looking for a specific article, I'd suggest visiting
your local library. The librarian can assist you in locating the exact
article you seek. Many public libraries subscribe to Encyclopaedia
Britannica, and you can use the service in the library with a valid
library card. Some libraries may allow you to use the service at home
by going through the library website, with a valid library card.

Additionally, what exactly are you looking for in regards to Windows
95 and/or Windows 98? You can probably find it online using
www.google.com

If none of the above helps you, you could post another question on
Google Answers with the information you are looking for and one of the
researchers may be able to find it for you!

Good Luck,
crabcakes-ga

Go back to the Britannica site, and try this search:

Set the search for All Britannica.com, and in the text box enter:

"windows 95"

(include the quotation marks".

Perhaps one or more of the results will be the type of article you are
looking for.

Let us know if this works out.

Going to http://corporate.britannica.com/GUIDED_TOUR_final.pdf gives a
pdf file with too small letters to be readable either on screen or
printed out. Of course I could enlarge with the Acrobat reader but
that will give me page sections of partial width & partial height
making studying it very laborious and in the end probably will end up
with a lot time spent and no usable knowledge gained. A pdf file can
also not be highlighted and transferred to Notepad or Words where it
could be manipulated. Entering "windows 95" with quotation marks also
leads to what will not yield useful results such as leading to
articles like "microsoft"
Britannica also finally answered but their answer is not worth the ink
with which printed. Therefore, in order not to throw good time after
bad, I will write off the $9 +change subscription to britannica as a
bad investment, and use windows as well as I can without knowing about
it as much as I would like to.
Thanks to crabcakes-ga and for your comments and either Google should
consider this question as answered and subject it to payment or close
it,since I do not plan to pursue this further in the near future.
