I would be delighted to describe my sources. As I'm sure you realise,
it's quite difficult to find information about Roger Tourte online,
but there are references to his work in a few library catalogues and
dealers' sites. I haven't included all references to the two most
widely available books by Roger Tourte and his wife, "A Pied Autour du
Monde - trois ans de camping" and "En campant du Cap Nord au Cap de
Bonne Espérance", but you will find one bookdealer's description
towards the bottom of this page.

Here are my best suggestions.

The Gazette des Beaux Arts is available online at libraries which
subscribe to the PCI Full Text database.
Information on PCI here:

Presumably the original journals are available in some French
libraries, but the main catalogues (see original answer)have not
produced any helpful information. The Catalogue Collectif de la France
is not working for me at all today.

No good news, I'm afraid.

This note is mostly to let other researchers know that a copy of "En
Felouque sur le Nil" listed with the "Librairie ancienne - Caroline
MASSART GIL" has in fact been sold recently. Sorry! This must be very
frustrating for you.

It isn't easy to find biographical information. All I came up with
were entries for various books by Tourte in academic libraries, and
one or two dealers' references.

How very kind of you! I really appreciate your thoughtfulness, and
wish I could see the book.

Unfortunately I doubt if this will be possible. Because of their
workload, the Google Answers staff can't really offer to handle
correspondence between customers and researchers, and of course I
can't put my own personal address here.

It is sad for me to turn down your generous offer; I am really touched
by your kindness and would love to have been able to accept. Perhaps I
will be able to look at some of Tourte's artwork in the British
Library one day. I only live 400 miles away!
