Mrs W (1876-1960) was Britain's leading conspiracy theorist during the 1920's & 1930's. She married Arthur Templer Webster in Chelsea in 1904 when he was 37. They had a couple of kids. He was formerly District Inspector of Police Fatehgarh, India. Your mission, Dear Researcher, is to find out EVERYTHING possible about Mr W, like what did he get up to in India; what did he do apart from a bit of farming after his marriage. In particular, did he know Brigadier General Sir Ormond de l'Epee Winter? (Winter was also in India, for a time, where he was an expert at pig sticking.) I already have 'Spacious Days' and 'A Winter's Tale', so you can skip that stuff. A partial answer will be OK provided it doesn't include the two books mentioned. A Million Thnaks |

Bryan, I don't think I can add anything to what you know already. Perhaps another researcher may be more succesful. "Nesta married Arthur Templar Webster [d. April 1942], 10 years her senior, on May 14, 1904 in London." http://freemasonry.bcy.ca/anti-masonry/webster_career.html "In India she married Arthur Webster, a sporting superintendent of Police, exactly as had been foretold by King Edward's famous Palmist, "Mrs. Robinson". She bore two daughters, Rosalind and Marjorie, who survive her." http://freemasonry.bcy.ca/anti-masonry/webster_obit.html World of the Strange Events (I?ll let you assess the reliability of the information.) ".....The Websters settled in Surrey where for ten years they enjoyed a peaceful country life, gardening, farming and raising a family.? "The Websters were living near Chanctonbury Ring in Sussex, a high lonely spot ideally situated for spies signalling to the enemy. It was rumoured locally that something of the sort was happening, and the authorities called upon the police experience of Mr. Webster, asking him to investigate." In no time at all, counterspy Nesta was flooding Whitehall with voluminous reports about "mystery flashes seen at night (my emphasis--J.T.), carrier pigeons intercepted and other happenings of a highly suspect nature" in Sussex. "In her autobiography Nesta described how together" she and her husband "'traced out on an ordnance map the points at which these phenomena occurred and a curious line of communication could be traced out between Aldershot (British Army headquarters--J.T.) and the sea.' This was taken seriously enough for two (intelligence) officers to to be dispatched from London to make further inquiries....." http://www.worldofthestrange.com/docv244.html "Captain Arthur Webster, the Superintendent of the English Police" http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/SSwebsterN.htm answerfinder-ga |

Hi, Answerfinder Many thanks for looking. Nothing new on Arthur! Some of the stuff written about Mrs W is rather wide of the mark ... For example: http://www.worldofthestrange.com/docv244.html QUOTE In the latter 1920s, Nesta moved further to the political right. She became a member of Sir Oswald Mosley's Union of British Fascists and became friendly with both Mosley and William Joyce, who became notorious as "Lord Haw-Haw" in World War II. Nesta "wrote numerous articles for the right-wing journal, The Patriot, published by her patron, the Duke of Northumberland." UNQUOTE Oswald Mosley didn't move into Fascism until the 1930's!
