Under the heading of 'le mot juste,' I need a one-or-two word synonym
for 'real fur,' as oppose to 'fake' fur. I am in the coat check
business, and currently post a sign indicating coat check is $1.
However, furs are $2. Odd question I grant you--just trying give a
little tact and precision to my sign. Hope you can help.

Hello Ouy~

I actually think it's kind of an interesting question :)

Here are some synonyms for "fake fur," in no particular order:

1. Faux fur
2. Simulated fur
3. Imitation fur
3. Man-made fur
4. Synthetic fur
5. Artificial fur

"Faux fur" is probably the classiest; but while the word "faux" is
known to most women (as in "faux pearls"), there's a risk some people
won't know what the word means. "Imitation" or "man-made fur" would be
my second choices.

I hope this helps!

Oh, Ouy! I definitely should NOT answer questions before I've had some
caffeine! I obviously completely misread what you were after. But not
to fear....

How about:

1. Authentic fur
2. Natural furs
3. Genuine fur

I think "genuine" might be the classiest :)

Still blushing,

Two terms sometimes used in describing non-synthetic furs are "pelt
fur" and "organic fur."

For a few more options, I was wondering if you could use peltry or
peltrywear or the classier sounding French word "pelleterie."
