From the current issue of Untours "Eurozine" e-mail magazine:
"Honorable mention in the clever kitchen gadget goes to the Swiss
invention of the kitchen sink tube. Inevitably, when Untourists arrive
at Orientation the day after they arrive (and have settled into their
new kitchen) they tell our staff, ?We can?t find the plug to the
kitchen sink.? Occasionally, they also mention that there is a curious
stainless steel cylinder resembling a flashlight casing whose function
is unknown to them. When you tell them that the cylinder IS the plug,
they are usually puzzled; here?s how it works: Have you ever found
that after you start doing the dishes, you come upon a liquid that
needs to go down the drain -- the water soaking the frying pan, the
vegetable juice, etc., but you can?t discard it because the sink is
full of water? The Swiss, (clever engineers that they are) devised a
remarkably simple solution to this problem. The hollow metal casing,
which is sized to fit perfectly, like a plug, into the drain, allows
you to pour the liquid to be discarded through the casing down the
drain without having to let the water out. ...Sadly, US sinks have a
different size drain so the sink tubes don?t work here."

My question: Can you find a place where I can purchase a sink tube in
a size that will fit a standard United States kitchen sink (on-line or
by mail order)? |
