In fact, there are lots of well-documented cases of UFO sightings. But that is so because UFO does mean nothing but "unidentified flying object". It can also be a plane, a dirigible, a balloon, or anything else in the air that remains unidentified. If you mean if there is evidence for sightings of alien spaceships, I assume the answer is "no". There are the merest handful of photographs of UFOs that so far have defied alternate explanations or unmasking as fakery. This most likely doesn't that they're alien in nature, but that authentication is beyond our tools and techniques. |

There are many thousands of documented cases and hundreds (if not thoudands) of books published on the subject. Most books published on the subject would appear to take the view that while many of the sightings can be explained (i.e. airplanes , helocopters, venus, the moon etc) some of the sightings defy a normal explanation and could therefore be sightings of spacecraft from other planets /solar systems. Some people have suggested even more unusual explanations such as ships from the future or parallel universes. Fewer of the books written on the subject take a sceptical or neutral viewpoint. Astronomers in general have been sceptical in terms of an extraordinary explanation required for many of the reported sightings. (This does not mean that astronomers reject the idea of intelligent life in the universe , it simply means that they believe that sightings of UFO's have nothing to do alien spaceships visiting earth and much more mundane events can explain the sightings) An interesting case is that of the abduction of Travis Walton by a flying saucer/UFO which was reported in 1975 (in Arizona). Walton was supposedly abducted by a UFO AND the abduction was observed by five of his work colleages, who later reported the incident to the police. Walton turned up a few days later after reporting on his time on the UFO/Flying Saucer. The movie 'Fire in the Sky' was based on this incident. Most sceptics maintain that then whole story was a manufactured hoax concocted by the six people involved (i.e. Walton and his five work colleagues) The problem with this is that one or more would almost have certainly admitted to the hoax. Another explanation has been made more recently in which hoax was rather more elaborate than just a concocted story. One of Walton's co-workers was his cousin and it is believed that the two of them actually stage managed an event to look like a UFO abduction (potentially with the help of 1 or more other participents) The other 4 work colleagues therefore saw an event which appered to them as a real UFO abduction.
