How can I get my Ipaq 3850 Media Player 7 to play MP3's? It either
does nothing or says "license cannot be found".

Hello, jimcole1:
How did you get those MP3 files? Did you rip them yourself? This
message is usually shown when you try to play an MP3 ripped using
Windows Media Player and the default settings in Windows Media Player
is to add DRM (Digital Right Managements) protection to the ripped
files.

A possible solution would be to rip again the files by deactivating
that option. Please, give me more information, but your iPAQ should be
able to play MP3 with any problems.

Regards.

One option is to use Microsoft Windows Media Player. It offers an
option to copy songs from your local play list and transfer them to
you iPaq.

In the event that you have CD's, you can select songs on the CD and
add them to a local play list.

Try this. Open Windows Media Player while your IPAQ is connected to
your computer and available through Active Sync. Choose Tools and
then Options from the player menu.

In the Options Menu, you can make the following choices.

- Under Devices, verify that your iPaq is listed as a valid device.
You should see the device name you have assigned through Active Sync
and possibly any additional storage attached to the device. Select
your device and choose the Properties button at the bottom of the
list. You can have Media Player select the quality for you to
maximize song or you can choose the quality you desire. Remember,
higher quality = larger files.

- Under the Copy Music tab, you can choose to copy all your CD's to
your computer when you play the CD's. You can also choose the
quality.

In Windows Media Player, you will see a button for "Copy to CD or
Device" on the left hand side of the standard view of Media Player.
If you choose this, you will see a list of current songs in your
playlist and a section for your iPaq's main memory or other storage
device. You can now select songs on your play list by placing a check
mark next to the songs you want. After you have tagged your desired
songs, press the "Copy" button near the top left of the player. It
will calculate the available space and tell you which songs will fit
on the destination device.

If the song was encoded with an unusual codec, has an error, it might
not copy to your device. If you are out of memory on your device, you
will also get an error message.

Play with these settings and experiment with pulling songs off of your
own CD's first. Once you are comfortable with the process, you will
be able to download and transfer songs from music site on the Internet
of from friends.

Good luck!
