He wrote (of one of his articles, that was supressed and never published):

"I believe it would have destroyed the main planks on which Hitler
rose to power, it would have prevented World War II, the greatest and
worst war in all history, and it would have changed the future of all
mankind."

Hard to believe he was correct in that...but I guess we'll never know.

Hi, Paf

Many thanks for your Comment.

I believe that the article you mention related to his interview with
Bismark who had told him that the German Army had been soundly licked
by the American Infantry in some battle and that this had led to the
Armistice.

He reckoned that if the Allied Press had published Bismark's admission
of defeat then the ground would not have been prepared for Hitler,
etc.

It has always seemed to me rather naive that things could have been
sorted out so easily ... but isn't that typical of a newspaperman?

Warmest regards

Bryan

CORRECTION:

Seldes interviewed von Hindenburg, not Bismark.

And the battle was the Battle of Argonne, at the end of which came the Armistice.
