Dear Timlaf,
Forest Genetics and silviculture are well researched and broad
subject, as my cooleagu Umiat has mentioned. However, here are several
latest developments as well as several leading research insitutes that
could give you a picture on the knowledge base and on the current
research interests in this field.
Basically, latest research bosy tries to find soem kind of
equibilerium between silviculture and forest genetics, and to preserve
the environment. As a site fo the German University of Goettingen puts
it:
"Forests hold a wide variety of genetic resources. Silvicultural
practice and environmental changes have an impact on the genetic
variation and, as a consequence, the stability of forest ecosystems.
Forest protection and development must therefore include the genetic
dimension as the basis for all evolutionary adaptation processes and
silvicultural control measures. "

USDA Forest Service
The genral researches on forest genetics could be found here:

However, the Forest Service conducts studies on the integration of
genetics and silviculture:
<http://www.fs.fed.us/pnw/corvallis/rmpgen/research/Integ.htm>, which
consist of two current studies:
- Genotype x silvicultural treatment interactions
- Incorporating genetic effects into growth models

include an ongoing experimental station in French Guinea. Many studies
are silviculture related.
